Babyproof bathroom checklist
Bathrooms are filled with hazards for young babies. A baby can drown in just one inch of water and should never be left alone with any container of liquid, including buckets, toilets and wading pools.
Make sure that the bathroom door is securely shut and off limits to your baby any time you are not using it. When your baby is in the bathroom it should be supervised at all times.
01Showers & faucets
- Set hot water heater thermostat to 120º Fahrenheit
- Install anti-scald devices to showers and faucets

02Bathing
- Bring baby with you when answering the door or telephone

- Toilet lid locks

04Cabinets & counters
- Safety locks and latches
- Quantity Required:
- Empty irregular shaped cabinets that can't be locked
05Poisons & medications
- Keep shampoo, medications locked away out of reach
- Keep activated charcoal on hand (helps to absorb poisons)
- Keep syrup of ipecac on hand (an emetic to induce vomiting)
06Electrical
- Install ground fault circuit interrupters (GFIs) on outlets near sinks and bathtubs

07Always be vigilant!
- To successfully babyproof your bathroom you will need to be constantly on the alert for possible drowing, electrocution and burn hazards. Make sure your always keep the door to the bathroom closed when not in use!
