The following checklist tells you what you really need to get you through the first year, and a few things that will make that year easier.

Travel basics
- Bouncer
- A boucer can soothe and stimulate your baby with gentle movement
- Bunting bag
- Carrier or sling
- The most convenient way to carry your baby and leave your hands free
- Car seat (rear facing)
- Car seats are required before you leave the hospital
- Car seat base
- If you have a second car, an extra base will make installing the seat much easier
- Diaper bag
- Make sure you have every thing you need when you leave the house
- Playard
- A familiar place for your baby to feel at home
- Gym or playmat
- Keeps your baby off the floor while its on the floor
- Stroller (fully reclining)
- Let your baby sleep while you're running errands
- Swing
- A swing can soothe and stimulate your baby with gentle movement
- Car seat & stroller accessories
- Toys, rain shield and head supports for small babies may be beneficial
- Travel system
- Turn your car seat into a stroller when you are out of the house
