Special procedures during labor and delivery

Not all pregnancies proceed as planned. Developments in modern medicine have made it possible for problems to become routine.

These procedures include assisted delivery and cesarean section. It is possible for an oversized baby to become caught in the birth canal during delivery, and while they may appear worrying, tools such as the forceps and vacuum extractor make it still possible to deliver vaginally.

Sometimes, a vaginal birth is not possible and the baby will need to be delivered through the abdomen. There are many reasons why a cesarean section may be performed, and although all surgery can be traumatic, the cesarean section has now almost become routine.
