A yard with a pool is a delightful place to spend time in the summer. But yards are full of hazards.
A typical swimming pool drowning victim is a boy 1 - 3 years old, who is thought not to be in the pool area at the time. Make sure your children are supervised at all times when you are outside.
Your baby wants to be just like you! So when it sees you using tools in your garden it will want to explore the world around it and play with them. Avoid accidents by storing all tools, garden and lawn-care equipment as well as fertilizers, potting soil and other toxic substances in a locked closet or shed. New dads should take this opportunity to organize all of their tools!
Power mowers can be dangerous for unwary adults. They should not be used when young children are around. If you have just treated your lawn, wait at least forty eight hours before letting children play on it.

You should know what types of trees, shrubs and plants are growing in your garden. Children's natural curiosity may lead them to try eating berries, leaves or other plant life. Make sure you know how to treat poisons and keep your children away from any dangerous plants.
Many adults are injured by grills and barbecues each summer. Treat outdoor kitchens like indoor kitchens and make sure your children are supervised at all times. When you are not using a propane grill, make sure it is stored so that the knobs cannot be reached or remove the knobs. Remove or lock the door where the propane tank is stored.
If you have a swimming pool, make sure it is completely fenced in. Any doors leading to the pool area should be self-closing and self-latching or equipped with exit alarms. Although it may seem inconvenient, they should never be propped open.
If children are in the pool or playing near by they should be supervised vigilantly. Don't rely on inflatable devices such as inner-tubes, water-wings, inflatable mattresses, toys or other objects to keep your baby afloat.

Hot tubs, whirlpools or Jacuzzis are very relaxing for adults. But babies and young children are more sensitive to hot water than adults. Don't allow children into the hot tub until they are older and more comfortable with hot water.
Most garages are used to store anything we wouldn't want in our homes. They are filled with all kinds of toxic substances. Lock detergents, paints, oils, paint thinner, gasoline and other dangerous products into a closet or place them very high and out of reach.
Babies can easily fall into buckets filled with water for cleaning and drown. They often contain diluted contaminants that are harmful when swallowed. When you have finished using a bucket, discard the contents and put the bucket away.
