Pregnancy is the cause of many emotional tensions, many of which are blamed on the hormonal changes that are taking place in the mother's body. But the birth of a child also has the effect of dramatically and permanently changing the family dynamic.
Suddenly your parents will see you make a rite of passage into adulthood. They might be worried that they are losing their children, but they will no longer view you as the children they have raised your entire life.
Your relationship with your partner will also change. Together you will be responsible for bringing a new life into the world. That tremendous emotional joy brings with it fears and new responsibilities.
If you already have children, they might be filled with joy at having a new brother or sister to play with, but they will no longer be the center of attention and may resent the arrival of the new baby.
Sometimes even the best laid plans go wrong. We cannot hold ourselves personally responsible for natural events. About twenty five percent of all conceptions end in miscarriage. After a miscarriage you will look at everything you have done trying to examine what went happened in excrutiating detail.
The emotional changes of pregnancy are varied. But a thorough understanding of some of the emotional issues you will be experiencing will help you cope.
