Clomid and Procheive
      #132 - 06/14/04 03:12 PM

Hey everyone. I'm trying to research more about the infertility drugs Clomid and Prochieve. I'm hoping that some visitors may have used these drugs and be able to provide some insight about their effects.

If you have used either of these drugs, did you experience any side effects? How long does it take for the drugs to become effective. From what I've read, it seems like getting pregnant while using Prochieve may lead to birth defects. So I'm hoping to hear from someone who has used these drugs with good results,

Thanks

Hi seeking answers!
I am on my third month of Clomid and will be starting my first round of Procheive tonight. The clomid seems to give me hot flashes and make my "temper" a little shorter. I also seem to get more headaches, although not bad.
The first 2 months of taking clomid seem to make my cycle last 4-5 days longer than normal, so I think that is why my MD has started me on the Procheive. Along with the Procheive, I also took estridol (estrogen) pills day 8-12 of this cycle.
I am a little nervous about the Procheive because I was reading in the pamphlet that came with the drug that it may cause birth defects. Although it did not give the % chance of this occuring.
I hope this helps, good luck!

Hi, I am on for days 3-7 clomid ( clomiphene citrate ) and days 8-12 estridol and days 10-16 you are supposed to be having intercourse and 17-30 using prochieve 8% then take a pregnancy test. My doctor also recommended taking robitussin on days 10-14. He said robitussin loosens all your mucus in your body. Including the mucus of your cervix and that it works. I am concerned now that you say it can cause birth defects but hey so can many other things lol. Good luck

My dr has just put on Procheive. She advised that the phamplet that comes with the procheive does contain information relating to birth defects. She advised that because of the FDA that they have to leave that warning but it does not cause birth defects. Way back in the 1930's it did but now now because of the increases in modern medicines and advances in science. I hope this may relieve some distress about Procheive causing birth defects.

Thank you. I have no doubt that the product liability warnings required by the FDA are perhaps overly restrictive. I'm sure many women using the drug will be reassured by your doctor's advice. I must confess that I was unaware that Prochieve had been available for so long.

This is really helpful. I, too, am doig Clomid days 3-7, Estrodial days 8-12, intervourse and finally, Procheive. This will be my second month with the full "program", but Clomid for 3 months (i don't count the first month b/c my doctor at the time was awful!!). Thank you for the information!

I have been using procheive, for about 5 days now, no real side effects that are noticeable. I have spoken with my doctor, and even though there may be birth defects the risk to the fetus birth defects that were reported in the offspring of women who were using procheive during early pregnancy. I have taken this directly from the pamplet of my medication.

I would make sure you actually need to take estrogen and progesterone supplements. I had my estrogen levels checked when my eggs were ready and after ovulation for progesterone around day 21. Make sure these medications are all necessary

I am also on the Clomid says 3-7, Estradiol days 8-12 Sex days 10-16 and Procheive 8% on day 17 onwards. My doc assures me that they have never witnessed any of these birth defects in women who took procheive. I have normal amounts of Estradiol and Progesterone on my own, but once you take CLomid, your estrogen and progesterone levels get messed up. So even if your levels are fine before you take Clomid, they won't be fine once you start Clomid, cause Clomid adversely affects estrogen and progesterone ( progesterone prepares your uterus for implantation of the egg and Clomid messes with your progesterone which then thins out the unterine lining) so thus you need to supplement your body with Estradiol and Procheve while taking Clomid.

Is it okay to have sex while taking procheive? I am on my first cycle of Clomid, estradiol, and procheive but i noticed that with the procheive i have had more discharge than normal esp. when we had sex (once) it scared me to see what i thought could be the drug or just mucus? any suggestions or responses would be great!!! Thanks!
