Many women continue to work until the day they enter labor. Other women stop working earlier, and if you have a medical or obstetrical problem your doctor will advise you to stop working sooner.
The law is quite broad and includes birth or adoption of children, or the illness of a spouse, parent or child. The company must continue to provide you with the same level of health coverage you enjoyed previously at their expense. Some states have more generous family and medical leave provisions, and in those states, they will take precedence over the Federal law. You are additionally permitted to take paid maternity disability leave for 4 weeks before your due date and up to 6 weeks after delivery.
